Kenyans Drum Up a New Record

Nine men in Kenya have claimed the world's record for non-stop drumming.
Eight Kenyans and a Nigerian have banged their way into the record books by playing the drums for 100 hours without stopping.

Their feat smashed the previous record set last year by 16 hours.

The marathon effort began last Friday in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.

They battled against fatigue, heat exhaustion and chilly nights to reach their goal.

A big crowd rewarded the drummers with a standing ovation outside the Kenya International Conference Centre.

The drummers were all delighted by their success.

'After feeling that tired you feel sweet afterwards. You feel healed, you feel cured. So this is our happiness,' one of them told reporters.

The event was organised by the Sarakasi Trust which is involved in the promotion and development of arts and culture across Kenya.

The new record must still be confirmed by the Guinness Book of Records.
