The dancefloor where John Travolta strutted his stuff in in the classic 70s film Saturday Night Fever is to be sold.
Saturday Night Fever has spread across the world in anticipation of the upcoming auction for the dancefloor that featured in the 70s classic.

With over 300 flashing coloured lights the floor dazzled everyone who saw hearthrob Travolta groove in the hit film.

Dance enthusiasts continued to follow in the footsteps of the film's main character disco-obsessed Tony Manero up until last week.

But the 2001 Odyssey nightclub in Brooklyn, where part of the film was shot closed down last week and has since sold the world's most famous disco floor to Hollywood memorabilia company Profiles in History.

Company spokesman Brian Chanes said they expected the floor to attract bids of more than $80,000 (£42,000).

'We're getting international interest from all sorts of people,' he told the New York Daily News.

'We have had interest from private collectors who want the dancefloor for themselves, and from club owners who know the commercial value of having the floor made famous in Saturday Night Fever.'

Jay Rizzo, owner of the Odyssey 2001 club, said the floor was particularly popular with European tourists.

'Over the years, we've had thousands of people who come here just to see it. It has literally been the heartbeat of this club,' he said.

The floor will go on sale on 1 April and will be auctioned on eBay, as well as in a live sale.

Saturday Night Fever, which was released in 1977, turned John Travolta into a huge star and landed him an Oscar nomination for his role as Manero.

The soundtrack, by the Bee Gees, also became one of the best-selling albums of the decade.
