ÔBaby 81Õ has finally had its identity confirmed as being four-month-old Abhilasha, son of Murugupillai and Jenita Jeyarajah.
DNA tests were needed to establish his parentage after eight other couples also claimed him as their own.
He was handed over in a brief court ceremony to his parents, who then gave thanks for his return by breaking coconuts at a Hindu Temple before returning to their temporary home in the eastern town of Kalmunai.
The couple said he was separated from them when the tsunami struck. A neighbour rescued the boy from under a pile of rubbish.
Baby 81 was given his name because he was the 81st person admitted to the Kalmunai hospital on 26 December.
